weekend gardening 6/18/06

so this is what i did this past weekend...
found some new weed like crops (or crop like weeds) in the garden.

mulched around the plants in the garden to prepare for the upcoming summer heat

transplanted the mystery plant i originally thought was basil to a pot (below) and transplanted new basil seedlings in (above)
thinned my tomato plants in the garden and transplanted them into pots

which are looking good after 2 days. this little guy suffered MAJOR transplant shock and i thought it was a goner. we shall see if the shock was little enough to avoid disease...

checked on my green zebra tomatos, which are slow to grow but seem to be picking up the pace...

and watched as my cherry tomato plants keep on growing before my eyes. they have completely taken over the bamboo stake, which is at least 1.5 feet.

Hey there, your basil looks much more appetising than mine does. And it looks like you'll be having salad all summer (and beyond). Good luck, Billy

Did you ever figure out the mystery plant? They sort of resemble peppers to me.

billy-thanks, the basil is coming in quite nicely, and every week or so, if i don't use it, i pinch off the tops to encourage branching. you should see the poor basil plant i have in a pot in the kitchen. it's so unhappy.

steve-good to see you back. nope i never figured it out. all i know is that the leaves sort of taste like, well, leaves. they taste how a tomato plant smells, if that makes any sense. i think it's stevia, but it may be peppers. that is what most people think.
